Types of Vaccinations
Influenza
This vaccination can prevent influenza or can prevent people from becoming seriously ill from the illness. It is especially recommended for infants, the elderly, students preparing for examinations, or anyone having a chronic illness.
DPT (a combination vaccine against Diphtheria - Pertussis - Tetanus)
This vaccination is given in two stages: Stage One: Children between the ages of 3 months and 4 years are given a series of three injections, each 3-8 weeks apart. Stage Two: One injection is given 12-18 months upon completion of Stage One.
Polio
An oral polio vaccine is given twice, 6 weeks or more apart, to children ages 3 months to 7 years.
Measles
This injection is given once to children between the ages of 1 and 7 years. It is highly recommended that this injection be given as soon as possible following a child's first birthday.
Japanese Encephalitis
This vaccination is given in two stages: Stage One: a 3-injection series is given to children from the age of 3. Two inoculations are given during the first year and one the following year. Stage Two: Booster vaccinations are given to children in the fourth grade and in their second year of junior high school.
Rubella
The vaccination is given once to children between the ages of 1 and 7 years.
Tuberculin Reaction and BCG
The tuberculin test is given to children between the ages of 3 months and 4 years. Two days following the test, the tuberculin reaction is checked. If the tuberculin test result is negative, a BCG vaccination will be administered.
Mumps and Chicken Pox
These vaccinations can be given to children from the age of 1. Since these are given upon request of the individual, local government offices will not issue inoculation notices.
